Boxwell Reservation has literally welcomed thousands of Boy Scouts to Old Hickory Lake since it was opened in Wilson County in 1959. Spanning more than 1,100 acres, the camp has numerous campsites and miles of hiking trails.
The camp offers summer programs as well as winter camps. Rolling hills and shoreline provide ample opportunities for recreation and enjoyment of nature. Accredited with an impeccable “A” rating, Boxwell is considered one of the South’s premier camps. It offers canoeing, fishing, swimming and more.
Boxwell is an approved Boy Scout camping location. Summer camp opportunities include Boy Scout Summer Camp, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Cub Scout Day Camp and Webelos Resident Camp. Winter camp is staffed and sponsored by the Order of the Arrow, which is considered to the honor society of Scouting.
The camp offers a variety of outdoor adventures and service-oriented experiences so campers can make the most of Scouting. Boxwell also hosts the JROTC Venturing Program which offers practical application experiences and leadership opportunities for all JROTC cadets. It is a weekend training event that is held in fall and spring.
Venturing Rendezvous offers networking through an overnight campout. Each crew brings their own items then prepares their own meals. The program offers competitions, shooting, watersports, socializing, geocaching and Army National Guard demonstrations.
