Boxwell Scout Reservation


Boxwell Reservation has literally welcomed thousands of Boy Scouts to Old Hickory Lake since it was opened in Wilson County in 1959. Spanning more than 1,100 acres, the camp has numerous campsites and miles of hiking trails.

The camp offers summer programs as well as winter camps. Rolling hills and shoreline provide ample opportunities for recreation and enjoyment of nature. Accredited with an impeccable “A” rating, Boxwell is considered one of the South’s premier camps. It offers canoeing, fishing, swimming and more.

Boxwell is an approved Boy Scout camping location. Summer camp opportunities include Boy Scout Summer Camp, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Cub Scout Day Camp and Webelos Resident Camp. Winter camp is staffed and sponsored by the Order of the Arrow, which is considered to the honor society of Scouting.

The camp offers a variety of outdoor adventures and service-oriented experiences so campers can make the most of Scouting. Boxwell also hosts the JROTC Venturing Program which offers practical application experiences and leadership opportunities for all JROTC cadets. It is a weekend training event that is held in fall and spring.

Venturing Rendezvous offers networking through an overnight campout. Each crew brings their own items then prepares their own meals. The program offers competitions, shooting, watersports, socializing, geocaching and Army National Guard demonstrations. With access to over 110 miles of water, Grimes Canoe Base allows Scouts over the age of eight to canoe and camp along the Buffalo River. Located on Highway 13 in Perry County near the town of Flatwoods, Grimes offers campsites with two-person tents including cots. Showers and bathrooms are also available, along with a Trading Post for snacks, T-shirts, and patches.

Grimes is open yearly from March 27 through November 1. Nearly 300 Scouts, leaders and family members can be accommodated on the river each day.

Charles E. Parish Scout Reservation

Located in Rock Island, Charles E. Parish Reservation is available for Troops to use for weekend camping, camporees, fun days, overnighters, and other events. There are two showerhouse/dry pit toilet combinations for use by all Troops, plus plenty of water available at several taps throughout the camp. Also, a new toilet/shower house has just been completed next to the lodge.

The reservation also features a multi-purpose building, the Walling Lodge, with electricity for night meetings, roundtables, etc. The Camping Committee has agreed to permit camping in the lodge from November through February in order to assist Troops and Webelos Dens that may not have adequate equipment. Each unit is responsible for leaving the building in good, clean order with no physical damage.

Latimer High Adventure Scout Reservation



Latimer High Adventure Reservation is owned and operated by the Middle Tennessee Council, Boy Scouts of America. We provide youth with a new destination for high-energy, high-risk outdoor activities such as rappelling, spelunking, rock-climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, rafting, canoeing, etc. We also help provide today’s youth with the guidance, support, and confidence they need to make the right decisions in life and become strong, moral adults.

Latimer Reservation is also available to public and private organizations looking for a secluded retreat for conferences, church retreats, team building and other exercises.

Latimer Reservation became a reality in 2007 with a generous gift from Bill and Carol Latimer. The 1550 acre property is surrounded by more than 50,000 acres of public wilderness in the heart of Tennessee. We have formed partnerships with the Tennessee Parks Division, Tennessee State Forestry Division, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency to provide visitors with complete access to the surrounding wilderness, including the Bee Creek Basin of Scott’s Gulf to the east, Scott’s Pinnacle to the northwest, the Caney Fork River, the Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial Wilderness Area to the north, and Fall Creek Falls State Park to the south.

All non-profit groups are encouraged to participate in the Latimer.
