Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements to join CubScouts?

  • Lion Cubs (entering kindergarten)
  • Tiger Cubs (entering first grade)
  • Cub Scouts (entering second or third grade)
  • Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or fifth grade)

What does Cub Scouting offer my son?

Cub Scouting offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide children through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, children also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.

How does participation in Cub Scouting affect participation in other activities?

The Cub Scout program is designed to compliment many other extracurricular activities. Typical time commitment is one or two Den meetings and one Pack meeting per month. Children who participate in organized sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming, etc, or academic-based extracurricular activities like music, art, science, etc., can be recognized for these activities though Cub Scout belt loops and pins which are worn on their uniform.

What are the responsibilities of a parent?

  • Provide help and support for the den and pack.
  • Work with your child on advancement projects and activities.
  • Attend pack meetings with your child and witness his/her advancement progress. Most loops/pins are handed out every few months.
  • Attend and assist den meetings.
  • Attend Cub Scout Family campouts, derbies, etc.

Do Cub Scouts go camping?

Yes, but they ease into it. We offer both Spring and Fall Family camping trips for the entire Pack. Our camping trips are often at Camp Bullowa in Stony Point.

What other activities are available to Cub Scouts and their families?

Pack 55 is very active, providing a rich environment for children and their families.Typical annual events include:

  • Family camping
  • Bike & Hike events
  • Bingo Night
  • Service projects
  • Pinewood Derby
  • Blue & Gold Dinner
  • Marching in the Memorial Day Parade

How much is it going to cost?

Unlike many Cub Scout packs, Pack 55 does not collect a registration fee and then collect monthly dues. To minimize impact on the lives of our parents and scouts, we choose not to fundraise as well. This does not mean that we will not raise money for a good cause; it just means dues are designed to subsidize the monthly pack meetings and outings but that den expenses vary depending on how many events scouts participate in outside the meeting space. There will be additional costs for optional events. For example, a parent/scout may opt to attend sporting events, or other events organized by the pack.

The annual Pack 55 dues for the 2018-2019 scouting year are $250.00. This covers such items as Scouting registration fee,the pinewood derby kit, food and supplies for Pack meetings and all patches and awards for the year. We encourage all scout families to sign up for a subscription to Boy's Life magazine, the cost is only $12 per year.

How often are the meetings?

Cub Scouts usually meet with their Dens one or two times each month, and a Pack meeting is held for all Cub Scouts and their families once a month.

How can I learn more?

The best way to learn about what a Cub Scout really does is to talk with a Cub Scout who is engaged in the program. Alternatively, you can learn more about the Cub Scout program by selecting "Contact our Pack" (above) and sending questions to our Cub Master.
