Every scout deserves a trained leader.
If you're reading this, chances are you're volunteering some of your precious time to help deliver a quality scouting program to our sons. Thank you! Rest assured that no one expects you to "hit the ground running" - there's a wealth of training available to make your job as a leader easier and more fun, and to help you be the best leader possible. Some courses are instructor-led and held locally, at little or no cost. Our best source for these is the Old Portage District's web site Training page or Great Trail Council's website Training page.
While instructor-led courses are periodically (usually in March and October) offered by the District (or Council) and are preferred, BSA recognizes your busy schedule, and makes a large number of courses available online, all of which are free. In general, online training requires the creation of an account, if you don't already have one. Just click Create an Account, and choose an available user name and a password. Once logged in, on the left side of the page, under Training, click "E-Learning". From there you'll see a page with four tabs (Cub Scout, Boy/Varsity Scout, Venturing, and General). The courses you'll need (as well as others you're welcome to take) are typically on either the Cub Scout tab or the General tab.

Roundtable
Every District, including our own Old Portage District, holds monthly Roundtable meetings, where leaders from Cub Packs and Boy Scout Troops gather to share information, best practices, have fun, win prizes, and enjoy fellowship with other leaders. Our Roundtable meetings are held the second Thursday of every month at 7 PM at the First Baptist Church, 1670 Shatto Avenue, Akron, next to the Northwest Rec Center and Library. If you're a Committee member or a Den Leader, please join us!
