Welcome to the Troop 493’s Committee page. 

Our Committee consists of the Committee Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and a few other Coordinators that are filled based on the Troop’s adult membership and volunteers.  The committee works together to help support the Troop.  Troop 493's committee is responsible for the following:

·         Keeping the chartered organization updated on the troop leadership.

·         With the assistance of the charter organization, provide adequate and safe facilities for Troop meetings.

·         Coordinate the Troop's program & inform the chartered organization's program through the chartered

          organization representative.

·         Help with Troop charter renewal.

·         Help supervise finances and equipment with the Scoutmaster & charter organization.

·         Work closely with the Scoutmaster. 

·         Ensure that all Scouts receive a year-round, quality program.

·         Complete Troop Committee Challenge, Fast Start Training and Basic Leader Training for the position.

·         Conduct, with the help of the Scoutmaster, periodic training for parents and guardians.

·         Cooperate with other Scouting units.

·         Provide periodic Scout Board of Reviews

Chartered Organization Representative
The Chartered Organization Representative is the direct contact between the Unit and the Chartered Organization.  This individual is also the organization’s contact with the District Committee and the Local Council.  The Chartered Organization Representative may become a member of the District Committee and is a voting member of the Council.  The Chartered Organization Representative appoints the Committee Chairperson.

Committee Chairperson
The Committee Chairperson is appointed by the chartered organization and registered as an adult leader of the BSA.  The Committee Chairperson appoints and supervises the Troop Committee and Unit Leaders.

Activities Coordinator
The Troop Outdoor Activities Coordinator is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to secure tour permits and permission to use camping site(s), venues, coordinate transportation, and ensure a monthly outdoor program.

Advancement Coordinator
The Troop Advancement Coordinator is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to ensure that the unit has at least monthly boards of review, quarterly courts of honor, and that the unit has goals of helping each scout advance a rank each year and for new scouts to reach First Class rank during their first year.  The Advancement Coordinator is also responsible for record keeping and submitting advancement reports to local council.

Chaplain
The Troop Chaplain is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to provide spiritual tone, guide the troop’s Chaplain Aide, give spiritual counseling, and promote the regular religious participation of each scout.

Equipment Coordinator
The Troop Equipment Coordinator is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to work with the Troop Quartermaster and is responsible inventory, storage, and maintenance of troop equipment.

Public Relations Coordinator
The Troop Public Relations Coordinator is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to inform parents of their responsibilities in scouting and with the chartered organization.  Provides news and announcements about the Troop to newspapers, bulletins of sponsors, websites, etc.  Promotes and stimulates service projects, scouting, Scout Sunday or Scout Sabbath, and family participation at Troop events.  Promotes new membership and let’s people in the neighborhood know that scouting is available.

Secretary
The Troop Secretary is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to keep minutes and records, send notices, and handle publicity.

Summer Camp Coordinator
The Troop Summer Camp Coordinator’s goal is to ensure that all of the Scouts have a safe and enjoyable experience at summer camp using Scouting principles and outdoor skills.  Should research and solicit other leaders to find an enjoyable summer camp program to present to committee for approval no later than January.  Coordinate with Troop Treasurer to make sure all funds are collected and paid by required due dates.  Coordinate with Public Relations Coordinator to ensure information is posted to website and distributed to parents in a timely manner.  Work with each Scout attending summer camp to create his merit badge schedule.  Scouts should choose badges that fit their advancement needs or they have an interest in.  Once this process is complete, the Troop Summer Camp Coordinator can then begin online merit badge registration. 

 

Training Coordinator
The Troop Training Coordinator is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to ensure training opportunities are available, maintain training records for both youth and adult members, store training materials and verify troop volunteers have BSA Youth Protection training.  Coordinate the annual process of re-chartering the troop.

Treasurer
The Troop Treasurer is appointed by the Committee Chairperson to handle troop funds, pay bills, maintain accounts, coordinate the annual Friends of Scouting (FOS) campaign, and supervise fundraising.
