We believe that every kid deserves to experience Scouting and we are very proud of our diverse program. We love
all Scouts, and we want everyone to feel included. If your Scout has Special Needs, we will work closely with you to develop a Scouting program that works best for your child.
If a Special Needs Scout needs to have advancement requirements adjusted in order to advance, we can do that. For those Scouts that have a permanent disability so severe that it precludes advancement at a rate that is considered slower than typical, the Scout can be a Scout indefinitely, so they can take the time they need. You can see the application process for extending the age of eligibility attached below.
We work with the families to see how to best share the world of Scouting with each individual child. We are constantly learning and growing - and look forward to learning how to work with your Special Scout!
There are many different trainings and information sessions available to Leaders, parents, and guardians on how to work with Scouts with Special Needs.
We work closely with our Council's Special Needs Committee. You can learn more about the Committee at this site: http://www.neic.org/SpecialNeedsScouting
