Welcome to Troop 45 of Southington, Connecticut, one of the older Troops in the State!
As part of the mighty Connecticut Yankee Council, we deliver a "Youth Led Program" prescedented by the originator of the Boy Scouts, Sir Robert Baden-Powell. At the core of our very existence is the Mission Statement of the Boy Scouts of America:
"The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law."
Troop 45 offers a values-based program with code of conduct according to the Boy Scouts of America. The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct and honesty. A boy who spends one year in our Scout Troop will learn lifetime skills. He will learn basic outdoor skills, self-reliance, and how to get along with others. Scouting will prepare him to live a more productive and fulfilling life.
What does it mean when we say “a youth-led program”?
The BSA's definition is that “empowering youth to be leaders” is the core of Scouting. A Scouts BSA Troop is a small democracy. With the Scoutmaster's direction, the youth are formed into Patrols, plan the Troop's program, and make it a reality. According to Lord Baden-Powel:
“The patrol method is not a way to operate a Boy Scout Troop, it is the only way. Unless the patrol method is in operation, you don't really have a Boy Scout Troop.”
With the generous support of our Chartered Organization, The St Paul's Episcopal Church, and the Adult Leadership of our Scoutmaster, Bob Lincavicks and our Assistant Scoutmasters, the Troop meets the 1st, 3rd, 4th and sometimes 5th Tuesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
